Barcelona aims to make several significant signings this summer, which necessitates player departures. While Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Casado, and Robert Lewandowski have been heavily linked with moves away from Spotify Camp Nou, Ansu Fati is another player who could leave permanently.
Fati has seen his role at Barcelona diminish over the past few years, leading to his loan move to AS Monaco last summer. He has performed adequately in France, seemingly doing enough to convince the Ligue 1 club to pursue a permanent transfer during the upcoming window.
Monaco holds a €11 million buy option and is willing to exercise it, but an agreement on personal terms with Fati is still required. This hurdle, however, may prove difficult to overcome, as journalist Andi Onrubia informed Cadena SER.
«According to sources consulted, Ansu receives €250,000 net per month from Monaco. However, Monaco is not the sole contributor to his salary; Barcelona also pays a portion of it, making his current salary unaffordable for Monaco. For Ansu to continue with the Monegasque team, the most crucial factor is reaching an agreement for a significant salary reduction. Monaco faces financial challenges due to the crisis affecting French football clubs and is unlikely to make an irrational commitment or overpay for the Spanish international.»
Fati must accept a substantial pay cut for a permanent move to Monaco
It is understandable that Monaco will not commit a large sum to Fati’s contract, meaning the 23-year-old must accept a significant wage reduction to remain with the Monegasque club. It remains to be seen if he will agree to this, but if he does not, a return to Barcelona appears inevitable.
Barcelona is keenly hoping that Fati will reach an agreement with Monaco, as they have no intention of reintegrating him into Hansi Flick’s squad. Should he return, another exit would be pursued, though finding a club willing to meet their terms will not be easy.
