This loss extended the Red Devils` winless streak in the league to six matches, despite consolation goals late in the game from Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.
However, following their comfortable 3-0 victory in the first leg against Athletic Bilbao last Thursday, United are focused on the opportunity to secure Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League competition.
«Losing games is stressful,» commented Amorim, whose side is currently 15th in the table, «but fighting for a title isn`t. I have no doubts that we are playing better and understanding our style, even in this difficult period.»
He added, «We must accept these Premier League defeats for now because we are prioritizing the Europa League. Thursday`s game is the most important for us.»
In the match itself at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford secured their victory with a Kevin Schade brace, a Luke Shaw own goal, and Yoane Wissa`s 18th goal of the season, after Mason Mount had given United an early lead.
Explaining the eight changes made to his starting lineup, Amorim stated the necessity for the club to effectively manage the squad for participation in different competitions. He noted that rotation benefits the players and helps preparation for multiple matches, although it made the Brentford game particularly challenging.
Amorim acknowledged the team`s struggles during the 90 minutes against Brentford, emphasizing the need to focus first on the upcoming European tie, and then the league again, managing the difficult schedule. Brentford coach Thomas Frank also spoke, expressing sympathy regarding the injury sustained by United`s Matthijs de Ligt during the match. De Ligt had to be substituted and is now a doubt for the crucial European fixture.
